TMMM: The Fortune Is In The Follow-Up

July 26, 20264 min read

Hello hard-working legend :)

Here are some compressed notes from a recent live coaching session with a client. Read it and take action. Enjoy!

This week, I met with a business owner who had been grinding away for 10 years.

He'd sacrificed weekends.

Carried the stress home.

Lost sleep.

Worked incredibly hard.

And after a decade?

He'd only had one profitable year.

The surprising part?

He didn't have a product problem.

He didn't have a people problem.

He didn't have a marketing problem.

He had a follow-up problem.

As we unpacked his business, we discovered that his team wasn't consistently following up quotes.

At all.

Think about that for a moment.

Every quote represents someone who has already raised their hand and said:

"I'm interested."

Yet in most businesses, quotes are sent... and then everyone just hopes for the best.

Hope is not a strategy.

Your Quote Bank Is Gold

Your quote bank is one of the most valuable assets in your business.

And it loses value by the hour.

Every hour you delay following up a quote, the chances of winning that business decrease.

The vast majority of your competitors are terrible at follow-up.

That's good news.

Because if you become world-class at it, you'll gain a huge advantage.

The Phone Is Your Secret Weapon

The business world has become obsessed with shiny objects.

Facebook ads.

Google ads.

Funnels.

AI.

Automation.

Meanwhile, the most powerful sales tool in the world is still sitting on your desk.

Your phone.

When a lead comes in, speed matters.

Respond quickly.

Ask great questions.

Build trust.

Serve first.

Most businesses don't.

That's your opportunity.

Objections Are Buying Signals

One of the biggest mindset shifts you can make is this:

Objections are not rejection.

They're buying signals.

Customers who aren't interested simply disappear.

Customers who ask questions are often trying to justify saying yes.

The key is preparation.

Write down the five objections you hear most often.

Create two or three responses to each one.

Role play them.

Practice them.

Refine them.

Confidence comes from preparation.

Done Beats Perfect

Too many business owners wait for perfection.

The perfect CRM.

The perfect script.

The perfect sales process.

Meanwhile, the businesses that win are simply taking action.

Improving.

Adjusting.

Repeating.

Tiny daily improvements.

Remember:

Done is better than perfect.

Imperfect action beats perfect inaction every single time.

Choose Your Hard

Running a struggling business is hard.

Building a great business is hard.

You don't get to avoid hard.

You only get to choose which hard you want.

The hard of staying stuck.

Or the hard of growing.

The businesses that win aren't necessarily smarter.

They simply solve problems faster.

Follow-Up Is Where The Fortune Is

Most business owners follow up once.

Maybe twice.

Then they retreat at the first sign of discomfort.

The customer says:

"We just need to think about it."

And the salesperson hears:

"Go away forever."

The reality?

The average sale often requires 10 follow-ups or more.

Most of your competitors won't even make three.

Consistency wins.

Persistence pays.

The fortune really is in the follow-up.

This Week's Challenge

Go back through every outstanding quote from the last 90 days.

Pick up the phone.

Call every single one.

Don't sell.

Serve.

Ask questions.

Offer help.

Listen.

You may discover that the growth you're chasing isn't hiding in your next marketing campaign.

It may already be sitting inside your quote bank.

Your Action Steps

1. Measure your current quote conversion percentage.

2. Create a simple quote follow-up checklist.

3. Identify the five most common objections you hear.

4. Write two responses to each objection.

5. Commit to a minimum of 10 follow-ups before moving a quote into your nurture sequence.

6. Follow up every new lead as quickly as possible.

7. Bring your results, questions, and roadblocks to the next Power 1/2 Hour.

Remember:

Most business owners need to be reminded more than they need to be taught.

Don't overcomplicate this.

Don't wait until everything is perfect.

Just start.

Tiny daily improvements.

A little bit better every day.

The businesses doing $10 million aren't necessarily smarter than the businesses doing $1 million.

They've simply solved more problems.

Now stop reading and start dialing.

You've got this. 👊
